"a collection of regret-laced noisy tunes and curious musical experiments" Shoft.org.uk
"Each and every track takes a significant departure from the one preceding it, leading the listener further into the forest until we’re lost and emerge on sandy beaches, icy snow slopes and other environments we’re taken on in this magical journey." RaveChild.co.uk
"this music suggests a cold and tormented Scotland - spot on with the current reverb shoegaze movement. But without being repetitive and boring, because it is both varied and audacious, going as far as movements of folk shoegaze." mmarsup.blogspot.com
"This is in parts dreamy and ambient, and in others noisy and challenging – but throughout there is a thread of pop sensibility winding through these songs which I find completely irresistible." Shoft.org.uk
"On what I regard as the record’s stand-out track “Three Faces”, Bates manages to accomplish what My Bloody Valentine have been fruitlessly trying to repeat since 1991 on a tiny fraction of the budget, by fusing skittering beats, washes of effect-laden guitar and a gorgeously delicate tune. As the first vocal section of the song fades into it’s own noisy sheen an extended instrumental coda strikes up, building layer on layer of blissful melody and squalling feedback. " Shoft.org.uk
